Deadlock Map Mechanics

Understanding map mechanics is crucial for victory in Deadlock. This guide covers lanes, jungle camps, teleporters, objectives, and vision control.

Lane System

The map features three main lanes: Top, Middle, and Bottom. Each lane periodically spawns minions that automatically push toward the enemy base.

Minion Waves

Wave Composition

Each wave consists of 4 melee minions and 3 ranged minions. Every 3rd wave includes a siege minion that deals extra damage to towers. Killing minions earns Soul for purchasing items.

Towers

Tower Defense

Each lane has 3 defensive towers. Towers deal increasing damage with consecutive attacks on the same target. Destroying towers grants bonus Soul to the entire team and opens up the map.

Jungle Camps

The jungle between lanes contains neutral camps that can be killed for Soul and buffs.

Small Camps

Creeps

Small camps contain 3-4 weak creeps. Easy to clear solo and provide early game Soul. Respawn every 2 minutes.

Large Camps

Elites

Large camps contain 1-2 elite monsters with higher health and damage. Require 2+ players or a strong solo hero. Grant significant Soul and occasional buffs.

Boss Camp

Patron

The central boss camp spawns a powerful Patron every 5 minutes. Killing it grants a team-wide buff and substantial Soul. Contesting the Patron is a major team fight objective.

Teleporters

Teleporters are located at key points on the map, allowing rapid movement between lanes and jungle areas.

Teleporter Strategy

Teleporters have a 30-second cooldown after use. Smart teleporter usage can enable quick ganks, objective rotations, and defensive responses. Always check if enemies are camping near teleporters before using them.

Objectives

Mid-Boss

A powerful objective that spawns in the center of the map every 8 minutes. The team that kills it gains a powerful temporary buff that enhances minions and grants vision.

Vaults

Vaults spawn periodically in the jungle. Breaking them open grants bonus Soul and sometimes items. Vaults are neutral and can be contested by both teams.

Common Mistakes

Map Awareness Errors

  • Ignoring minimap: Not checking the minimap every 5 seconds means missing enemy rotations. This is the #1 cause of deaths in Deadlock.
  • Overstaying after tower falls: Once your outer tower is destroyed, the lane becomes dangerous. Rotate to safer farm instead of feeding.
  • Teleporting blindly: Using teleporters without checking if enemies are camping the exit is a free death.
  • Not warding objectives: Contesting Patron without vision is gambling. Ward the pit 30 seconds before it spawns.
  • Split pushing without teleporter: Pushing a side lane without a way to join team fights leaves your team 5v6.

Pro Tips

Advanced Map Control

  • Wave management: Kill only the ranged minions in a wave to slow its push. This creates a "frozen" wave that denies enemy farm.
  • Teleporter bait: Ward a teleporter, then hide nearby. When enemies use it, collapse for a free kill.
  • Jungle invade timing: Invade enemy jungle camps at 1:45, right before they respawn. This steals their farm and denies Soul.
  • Vision denial: Destroy enemy wards before objectives. Without vision, they can't contest safely.
  • Patron setup: Clear jungle camps 60 seconds before Patron spawns. This gives you level and item advantages for the fight.
